Earn commission at Fairway Hotel, Randpark Golf Club, Bryanston Golf Club and Royal Jhb & Kensington Golf
A handful of select golf clubs in Johannesburg are now proudly PCO friendly, offering commissions on functions, conferences and golf, to event organisers. This step has been initiated by the Joburg Gems collective, a group of “super” clubs and resorts in Johannesburg, who work together to attract more visitors to their clubs.
Traditionally golf clubs in South Africa have been closed member-centric environments, allowing only their members to enjoy their facilities. Recently, and partly due to the financial downturn, the clubs have opened up their facilities, welcoming visitors for meals, meetings, conferences, parties and certainly golf. This step has been taken to be in line with hotel industry trends to stimulate usage of their facilities for meetings, conferences, events and golf days.
The Fairway Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort, a SAACI and SATSA member, recognised the importance of teaming up with the superior golf clubs to create golfing stay and play packages to the leisure market. This marketing initiative has now grown to attract the corporate and events market, with each member geographically well located to suit the client’s needs.
Randpark Golf Club is based on The Fairway Hotel’s doorstep and working together they provide a wider offering of facilities in the north west to PCO’s. The recently renovated Bryanston Country Club is located in the north offering state of the art technology in their conference rooms and a pastry chef that will wow anyone’s taste buds! Royal Johannesburg & Kensington, located on the East Rand has a wealth of history and tradition and are current hosts of the Joburg Open.
“Golf Clubs have been lagging behind in offering commissions to the trade and often have not understood the rate structures in the events industry”, says Natalie van Blerk, heading up the Joburg Gems initiative. “Joburg Gems, as the forward thinking cluster in the Joburg golf world, have recognised the need to incentivise event organisers and are now well positioned to welcome the trade to their facilities. So if clients are looking for a more relaxed environment to hold their conference or events, these golf clubs can be considered, each providing meeting options against a lovely lush backdrop of gardens and fairways”.
Each Joburg Gems member can be contacted directly to negotiate rates and commissions.
