“Being committed to your sport and a demanding working lifestyle sometimes calls for a treat. As a full time employee, competitive cyclist and sportsman, I like to invest in my sport and subsequent recovery and make some time for proper relaxation”, says mountainbiker Armand du Toit.

Armand was on his way to Glenburn Lodge & Spa to see what the Chicama Spa Cyclist Treat package entails.
Glenburn Spa (previously known as Chicama Spa) offers a Cyclist Spa treat which includes a 30min steam room session to relax the sore muscles, a 30 min back, neck and shoulder treatment as well as a 50min Circulavine Leg treatment.
Glenburn Lodge & Spa has just opened two mountain biking routes on its property. The circular routes start and end at the universal sports field close the Glenburn Lodges entrance. Both scenic routes are just under 5km and takes the rider along the grass fields, mountain and riverside.
Armand enjoyed the steam room and Swedish back massage which is part of the Cyclist Spa package, but the 50 minute CirculaeVine leg treatment stood out above the rest: “I can definitely refer to this treatment as a full body relaxation and recovery session, which I would definitely recommend to any cyclist, sportsman or woman!”
“The specialised CirculaeVine invigorating foot and leg treatment uses manual lymphatic drainage techniques: The feet and legs are wrapped in a circulation-booster gel, followed by a hydrating body lotion. A perfect treatment to help relax and relieve tired or aching legs and a definite for anyone who participated in the 947 cycle challenge or does weekend races or leisure rides,” says Spa Manager Geraldine Veldman.
The Cradle of Humankind has become a popular cycling and training area with several routes and bike facilities in the area. The 43km Cradle of Humankind loop is a scenic route and goes past the Rhino and Lion Park. www.thebicylcecompany.co.za describes the terrain as hilly with a lot of downhills to recover. The Cradle to Caves cycling trail has cycling lanes which makes it a safe option. The 37km ride should take one to two hours depending on your speed.
