“KNITTING BROKEN LIVES TOGETHER” WITH 67 BLANKETS FOR NELSON MANDELA AND GUVON HOTELS

Guvon Hotels proudly joined the Knitwits of 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela movement three years ago. Since then our enthusiasm has grown for this heartwarming project and blanket contributions tripled, with the last donation this month totaling a whopping 183 blankets.

In December 2013, Zelda la Grange, late former President Nelson Mandela’s trusted assistant, presented Carolyn Steyn, with a challenge: knit, sew or crochet 67 blankets! These blankets would then be distributed to those in need on Mandela Day. One year later Guvon Hotels and Spas got wind of this great idea and picked up the knitting and crochet needles and joined the movement.

Since then, 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day has transformed into what some are calling a  movement that has captured the attention of many South African and international celebrities as well as corporates and “KnitWits for Madiba”  in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Cyprus, London, the US and India.

Carolyn Steyn and her team took ownership of 183 blankets at the Guvon Hotels head office which was a combined effort from all the hotels in the group as well as Guvon Academy.

And the best part of the day after the staff excitement, the certificate handouts, the plethora of social media pics and hashtags? When Caroline stopped her car just outside our head office and handed one of our blankets to an elderly lady on the side of the road. That’s how we knit a nation together. One blanket at a time.

Running out of ideas for kiddies parties? Bring your Little Princess to Chicama Spa

Hosting kiddies birthday parties must be one of the most lucrative industries to be in. How many times have I seen moms ripping their hair out to come up with another inspirational party idea for her Little Princess. One that hasn’t been done before and will keep up with the Joneses.

Chicama Spa, known for its vinotherapy and family friendly attitude (nice combination when you are hosting a kiddies party!), has come up with a brilliant idea which will have moms smiling all the way to the kiddies party.

Set in Muldersdrift on the Glenburn Lodge property, Chicama Spa with its split levels and welcoming interior is a wonderful party venue for little girls, slowly easing them into the joys of Spa pampering.

The Little Princess Spa package consists of the following and will keep the little angels busy for 2 hours:

  • 30 minute back, neck and shoulder massage
  • 60 minute mini hand and foot ritual, including painting of nails
  • Light lunch (toasted sandwich with chips or a side salad and coffee, juice or tea)

Your Little Princess must be between 8 and 12 years old and the Spa welcomes groups of little ladies from Tuesdays to Fridays, at R430 per girl.

Talking about wine therapy for moms, we highly recommend that mom rewards herself for her brilliant idea and settle in for a relaxing Red Wine Sachet massage and Merlot Hydrotherapy Spa Bath. A warm infusion of herbs, minerals and red wine is used to create cell renewal through your skin. Every sachet contains polyphenols, which slows the damaging cell oxidation process. After your massage, enjoy a Merlot hydrotherapy spa  bath to complete your anti-aging treatment. A steal at R500 for your full body treatment.

Minimoons. Time for regrouping before or just after the wedding day is not a nice to have – it is essential.

At the moment I am totally surrounded by brides-to-be. At the office, in our close circle of friends – everywhere you look, weddings are being planned fast and furiously. And can we write books about their experiences – from venue disasters to half-made wedding dresses. If it wasn’t such a source of frustration to the brides, it would certainly have been roll-on-the-floor funny.

Friedel Esterhuizen, soon to be Mrs van Tonder, has opted on two Minimoons just after her wedding day.  She cleverly planned her wedding for a Thursday, which resulted in massive venue hire savings. Friends are all putting in two days leave and what would have been a quick wedding has turned into a long weekend celebration.

As Director of The Cleaning Studio as well as Lifetree Wellness Solutions, and mom to be of three kiddies under ten, her life is a flurry of activity. “Duane and I decided on two Minimoon weekends just after our wedding, for the simple reason that both our businesses require our full attention at this stage. In a month from now everything would have settled down and we will be on our way for a three week Honeymoon in Thailand.”

As a wellness expert Ms Esterhuizen is acutely aware of the benefit of keeping body and soul in sync and often does so in a Spa environment. “Spa packages are wonderful ways of rejuvenating as a couple and preventing stress-related burn out”.

Weekdays provides the perfect opportunity for business owners to fill their energy tank at a Spa. “I have recently discovered that Guvon Spas offer wonderful weekday discounts when booking a midweek treatment – up to 40% discounts are up for grabs. As an entrepreneur and businesswomen it makes perfect sense to me to make use of this opportunity to save and indulge all at the same time.”

If wedding nerves are getting the best of you, the following Spa deals may relief your tension with either a midweek spa break or a Minimoon:

  • Askari Spa at Askari Game Lodge in Magaliesburg offers 40% discount on Tuesdays when spending R500 or more.
  • Chicama Spa based at Glenburn Lodge in the Muldersdrift countryside offers 30% discount on Tuesdays when spending R500 or more.
  • Classic treatments are discounted to less 20% from Monday to Thursday at Kloofzicht Spa in Muldersdritf.
  • The Fairway Spa,  based at The Fairway Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort invites you to book between Monday and Thursday and qualify for a 15% discount when spending R500 or more.
