Groupon may have left the country, but I have definitely become a voucher kind of girl.

While Groupon made friends with bargain-seeking clients (who mostly stuck around for the one promotion) and made enemies of suppliers who were hung out to dry after massive discounts, there is another voucher scheme going. The old-school honest kind where you pay a specified amount and receive a great experience in return. Simple always win.

  • DONT, I repeat DO NOT, buy roses. Any florist out there will tell you (or maybe they won’t) that roses are heavily marked up for Valentine’s day, because of demand and supply issues.
  • Instead of buying cut flowers, why not invest in a  flower or other plant – plant it together, say a blessing and watch it grow as you shower it with water and love throughout the year. Married couples, we know you are in for the long run, so invest in a beautiful fruit tree. If married life gets tough you will always have lemons to go with the Tequila.  Click here for 24 Glorious Ways To Drink More Tequila.
  • Home-cooked breakfast in bed is always a good idea. Same goes for lunch or dinner.
  • Buy each other vouchers – it may seem less romantic but hey, what if she really needs a pair of Woollies knickers more than a box of imported chocolates?
  • Gents, I have three words for you: Massage, massage, massage. If food is the way to a man’s heart, so do the words massage and Spa light the flicker of love in any girls eye. Stress not if this is not your area of expertise because once again the lovely voucher comes to mind. For great Valentines Spa ideas, click here, and yes,  vouchers are available. Always.

Happy Valentine’s to all, and let the secretive planning be part of the fun.

PMR.africa awards Fairway Spa with a Golden Arrow of Excellence Award

Fairway Spa Manager Louisa Fonto and her team of spa therapists have reason to smile. PMR.africa recently conducted a regional survey on the City of Johannesburg where companies’ competencies, brand awareness contribution to the economic growth and levels of management expertise were measured, and they came out tops among Johannesburg Spas.

PMR awards - Louisa - dec 2014

Seen here with the PMR Award is (from left to right):

Maggie Mabusela, Louisa Fonto (Spa Manager), Nomvuyo Bunjwa

Ratings are based on the perceptions of respondents and a random sample of 140 respondents comprising of CEO’s, MD’s, business owners, company directors and managers and senior government officials, all based in the City of Johannesburg, were used.

Fairway Spa was awarded the “Golden Arrow” for Spas, win the Executive Lifestyle Category.

“This award confirms our vision and objective of being “On par with excellence,” says Louisa Fonto, Fairway Spa Manager. “We have our staff to thank for keeping up the levels of service which was required for us to be successful in this award. We look forward to spoiling the  Spa-going public of Johannesburg with innovative and exciting Spa promotions and offerings in 2015”.

The Fairway Spa, part of the Guvon Hotels & Spas portfolio, is hidden away in a leafy Randpark suburb, right on the Randpark Golf Course.  Inspiration for the spa interior and Spa menu comes from the soothing surrounds of stretches of golfing fairways and water features. Overlooking the putting green, Fairway Spa is the ultimate five star relaxation-station only 2km from Cresta Shopping Centre and 15 minutes from Sandton City in Johannesburg.

FEELING THE XMAS SPIRIT YET?  May we recommend a Me-gift for Christmas?

We are all hearing the tick-tock of the holiday clock as we are counting down to sunny beach days of doing absolutely nothing, for extended stretches of time.  A little me-gift before the 25th of December is absolutely in order.

Honey Souffle, brown sugar, egg nog and home-made cookies  make the mouth water in anticipation, and so it should as they are all elements from some of the spa packages available from the Guvon Spa group, this December month.

If you are ready to pamper away the stress of a year of hard work and long hours, the Christmas Spa  packages range start at R650 per person.

Guvon Spas consist of Askari Spa (Maliesburg), Kloofzicht Spa and Chicama Spa (Muldersdrift) and Fairway Spa (Fairway Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort), each with its own tailor-made Xmas spa package.

Add a game drive at Askari Game Lodge & Spa, a round of golf at The Fairway Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort to your spa day. Or maybe sundowners at Little Foot Bar at Kloofzicht Lodge or a lazy Sunday lunch at Glenburn Lodge is more your scene?
