GUVON HOTELS AND SPAS EXPANDS FOOTPRINT TO PRETORIA.

Royal Elephant Hotel & Conference Centre joins Guvon Signature Collection

Royal elephant compilation 1It started twenty-five years ago with a Scottish themed lodge. Soon after, a five-star fly-fishing haven opened up on the others side of the Swartkops Mountain in Muldersdrift. Next the sound of pinging golf balls and roaring lions were added to this ever-growing portfolio. What does Guvon Hotels and Spas have up their sleeve next? Something with a distinct Moroccan flavour, it seems.

In line with CEO Kosie Pansegrouw’s vision of creating niche products in prime locations and places of outstanding natural beauty, Guvon Hotels and Spas are known for its innovation, constant improvement and sustained passion for the hospitality industry, through the dedicated effort of its dynamic team. Adding Royal Elephant with its unique Moroccan theme fits like a hand in glove, adding substance to this vision of offering leisure, corporate and wedding guests something different and a cut above the rest.

The El Jadida Suite, named after the port city on the Atlantic Coast of Morocco, boasts state of the art conferencing equipment in a unique, Afro-Moroccan setting.

The Royal Elephant Hotel & Conference Centre is a splendid Moroccan themed property situated in Centurion linking the main business hubs of Johannesburg, Midrand and Pretoria. Positioned as an upmarket business hotel, it is close to three airports and offers corporates a multi-purpose centre which seats up to 320 people banquet style, 600 people cinema style and up to 300 delegates schoolroom style.

Executive facilities include four boardrooms and five multi-purpose venues including Bondev House for large events. All conference rooms are air-conditioned, have independent light switches and a generator is available.   Sprawling lawns bordering the Hennops River lend itself to a variety of teambuilding activities. Distinctive architecture and decor provide the setting for the ultimate in privacy where certain wings and floors may be set aside for high profile visitors who are accompanied by their own security teams.

With 40 bedrooms and a Royal Presidential Suite, all rooms are individually decorated using Moroccan & North-African furnishings and antiques. Original artwork from distinguished African artists, heavy ornate solid wooden doors and vibrant colours set the tone for corporate travelers looking for something out of the ordinary.

The Oasis Resident Bar overlooks the pool deck and is ideal for relaxing pre-dinner cocktails. With vibrant turquoise and purple tub chairs, Moroccan lanterns and Tangines dotted around the room, it sets the tone for recapping a day of successful strategizing and meetings.

The Royal Lounge, reserved exclusively for in-house guests, is adjacent to the Zagora Grill Room where all meals are served.  Dining at the Royal Elephant offers a menu of combined Moroccan, international and African flavours. Room service is available to corporate hotel guests.

Leon Bosch, Operations Director of Guvon Hotels and Spas explains the collaboration between the Guvon properties and the Royal Elephant Hotel: “It is perfectly situated geographically and provides a much-needed link between the Johannesburg, Magaliesburg and Hazyview properties within our portfolio. Its unique décor, design and superb conference facilities make this a prestigious venue that we are delighted to market. We have seen strong interest from the local business market and look forward to building a mutually strong relationship.”

Stephan  Vlaanderen, General Manager at Royal Elephant Hotel adds: “I believe that the synergy between the Guvon Hotel properties and Royal Elephant Hotel is well suited and will take our business to new heights creating awareness in new markets throughout Gauteng and other provinces”.

SANDTON ROAD CLOSURES IN OCTOBER SENDS BUSINESS MULDERSDRIFT WAY.

No traffic congestion, ample free parking, free Wi-Fi just 30 min from Sandton in the Cradle of Humankind .

Sandton traffic

Sandton inner city road closures in October coincides with the launch of a real time, online booking system for all self-catering  units within the Guvon Hotels & Spa group. Aside from taking the headache out of getting to and from your business or holiday destination, (which will be prevalent in Sandton for October) the easy online booking process makes Muldersdrift and the Cradle of Humankind the destination of choice in October.

Guvon Hotels recently made a move into the self-catering market, taking heed of the need for family orientated getaways where preparing own meals in your own time is of essence. The online rates include breakfast, while other meals are self-catering. Even though the self-catering units are largely aimed at families, it may also be utilised for business groups traveling together.

Glenburn Lodge has been the forerunner with two and three bedroom self -catering units, set along the Blaauwbank and Crocodile Rivers in Muldersdrift. This popular family lodge offers wedding, conference and year end facilities in addition to its excellent nature orientated recreational activities. Set in a small private game reserve, game viewing, bird watching, walking trails, putt-putt and several swimming pools are perfect for family stays.

The upmarket Fairway Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort now offers online bookings for the self-catering garden villas, at Randpark Golf Course. A fully equipped kitchen and braai facilities on a wooden deck overlooking the golf course, makes this a very popular choice with golfing groups.

For those with a love affair with the Big 5, the online availability for self-catering units at Askari Game Lodge & Spa in Magaliesburg comes as a huge bonus. A few clicks later and your family unit overlooking the Magalies Mountain range is booked and you can start packing for Big 5 game drives and elephant interaction on the property.

Kloofzicht Lodge’s latest addition, the exclusive Royal Suite is also available online for those high-end executive meetings or romantic getaways, requiring the presence of a butler of personal chef. Overlooking the mountain and gorge, this Suite is surrounded with a private terraced garden with entertainment areas, a heated eight seater Jacuzzi and several vantage points for game and bird watching. A large fire pit invites guest to conclude their day with the sounds of nocturnal night life surrounding them.

Online bookings for self-catering units can be made directly from www.guvonhotels.co.za or the individual hotel websites. Any enquiries may be directed to Reta Coetzee and her Central Reservations team on 08611 48866.

All self-catering units are also available as holiday ownership options, in partnership with Beekman Managed Portfolio (BMP) – a collection of top end resort developments. Details about this unique ownership opportunity  is available on the Guvon Hotels website.

GUVON HOTELS TAKES ON THE OTA’S (OKES TAKING ALL).

Guvon Hotels recently embarked on a tongue in cheek campaign, certain to ruffle some “some okes” feathers. The “Forget the Online Okes” campaign pokes fun at OTA’s and the high commissions payable when making online bookings via a third party.

Reta Coetzee, heading up the Central Reservation team, is passionate about encouraging guests or corporates to book directly with any of the Guvon Hotels. “We promise to match any online rate that an OTA may offer. The Guvon Hotels website and all hotels listed on the site are extremely user friendly – follow four easy steps and your booking is made.”

Book directly with us 2015 guvon hotels

Group Marketing Manager Christa Badenhorst adds: “Although most hotels have a love-hate relationship with OTA’s, we do realize that we cannot live without them. Large booking engines such as Booking.com have major advertising and Google remarketing budgets, which we benefit from tremendously.”

The Guvon Hotels strategy echoes the sentiment of Robert Rauch who stated in his article “Top 10 Hospitality Industry Trends in 2015” that OTA’s should be part of your bigger picture: “The key is to negotiate with your distribution team (yes, the OTAs can be an integral part of your team) and reduce your commissions. Then make certain that you have a strategy in place to earn the repeat business of every single guest…and get them to book direct next time.” Sound advice for booking more profitable business from Mr Rauch.

Booking via the Central Reservations Office eases the booking process: “Instead of calling seven properties for comparative quotes, guests can instead contact CRO (Central Reservations Office), provide the date they want to travel and CRO will be able to come back with availability and rates for the given dates from all the properties. One stop shop seems like such and abused term, but this really is the case when booking via CRO.” Coetzee concludes.

Guvon Hotels & Spas is a leading hospitality group offering a collection of hotels in Gauteng, Northwest and Mpumalanga. And we want our guest to book direct for the best price available. All properties offer excellent accommodation, conference, team building and wedding facilities. Kloofzicht Lodge & Spa, Glenburn Lodge, Bush Willow Tented Camp and Chicama Spa are in Muldersdrift, in the Cradle of Humankind. Askari Game Lodge & Spa, a Big 5 game reserve, is in Magaliesberg, while Umbhaba Lodge is situated in Hazyview. Eye candy all around #atGuvon

I feel like I live in LaLa land. So much eye candy in one week is unheard of! Eye candy no 1 – the elegant icon Leanne Manas doing her You/ Huisgenoot interview at The Fairway Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort. Eye candy 2, double trouble in this case –  Melinda Bam, interviewing our current Miss SA Rolene Strauss for Pasella  (SABC2) also at the Fairway. (I am secretly very excited about Rolene and think she has the mettle to go far – perhaps in the footstep of our Melinda, who has turned out to be a fantastic presenter – easy on the eye and extremely natural. Unlike some other ex-Miss SA’s in lifestyle programmes. Nasty. I know.) Our  Sales Manager Francois understandably jumped at the opportunity of a photo.

ImageImageImage

Imagine everyone’s delight when Mr SA John Owens orchestrated a Blood Drive for Jordan at Glenburn Lodge. To support him in this worthy cause was a Mr SA finalist for this year Armand du Plessis and Mirell Ventura – a Mrs SA finalist.

The gorgeous Matthew Cole-Fincham, 1st runner up Mr SA, enjoyed a well-deserved rest at Askari Game Lodge & Spa with the Big 5, before he ventures off to represent South Africa in the Mr World contest in June. What did he enjoy most about his stay? The big sloppy elephant kiss. (See our Facebook page for some stunning photos).

What a happy week of celebrity spotting at the Guvon Hotels properties! Just another super reason to stop by for drinks after work or Sunday lunch – you never know who you may run into! Have a look at the Guvon Hotels & Spas Facebook page to see more photos of our Brand Ambassadors and Celebs.

CLICKETY CLICK. THE SOUND OF GAME RANGERS KNITTING

Image Image

Never before has our hotel group embraced a winter charity challenge, like the one knitting itself out in the hotels #atGuvon. Med Lemon thought it would be a good idea to knit a plethora of scarves for school kids in Soweto for the chilly winter days. Not one to shy away from challenges as huge as the building of Noah’s ark, they soon set a challenge/dare system in place.

Low behold, one cold morning a message popped up on the Guvon Hotels Facebook page: Indaba Hotel bets us that we cant knit 100 scarves! Never one to say no to a challenge from a competitor hotel, the game was on. In return, Guvon Hotels challenged Avianto and Misty Hills… and so the battle of the knitting needles began.

With a deadline of mid May looming, hotel staff  are knitting up a navy blue, woolly storm. Our sincere thanks to Askari Lodge & Spa, and especially the manly game rangers and Metro men in reception for embracing this challenge with so much enthusiasm. As they say: “It takes balls to knit!”

Visit our Guvon Hotels Facebook page for loads of fun pics as the challenge unfolds.

4 DECADENT SPA TREATS FOR MOM FOR MOTHERS DAY MONTH

Image

With four fabulous spas to choose from for the duration of May month, choosing your Mother’s day gift this year should be as easy as a walk in the park. The full detail of the spa packages can be viewed under the Specials section of www.guvonspas.co.za, but listed below are a few of the Spa treats which will whet your appetite.

At Askari Spa at the Big 5 Game reserve in Magaliesburg, the spa is offering a Litchi and Rose themed treat at R660 per person for mom, which includes hands and feet treatments, a lovely back neck and shoulder massage as well as a  Litchi and Rose salt scrub gift to make the memory linger.

Fairway Spa based at The Fairway Hotel and Golf Resort is treating moms to a feel-good package which includes a glass of sparkling wine, back, neck and shoulder massage, facial, manicure or pedicure as well as a Spa gift for only R700 per person.

At both Chicama Spa and Kloofzicht Spa in Muldersdrift manicures, pedicures, facials and spa gifts are included in their spa packages. While Chicama Spa offers an additional Swedish full body massage, Kloofzicht spa includes a spa lunch overlooking the gorgeous fly fishing dams and mountain range  – respective packages costs are R1520 and R1170 per person.

All  seven hotels  #atGuvon will have wonderfully decadent Mothers Sunday lunches on 11 May and we invite you to treat Mom to an unforgettable afternoon out. Keep an eye on the Guvon Hotels Facebook page and webpage for further detail.

FICKLE FLOWERS AND OTHER WEDDING DILEMMAS

What’s more expensive nowadays – a litre of petrol or a red rose for a winter wedding day? Image

I think we are pretty pro-active and on the ball when it comes to marketing and new initiatives at Guvon Hotels. I have a wonderful creative marketing team to thank for this. Imagine my shock, horror and surprise when brides who booked for our winter wedding specials, started moving their dates back into summer months, despite the obvious rate hike. What’s up, I wondered.

Why would anyone who could save up to R15,000 in venue hire and get a chance to do a fireplace, fake-fur winter wedding extravaganza, opt for blistering sun and moody, unpredictable rainy days. The money saved could go a long way in food, drinkies and even a nice honeymoon destination. In my ideal world the JC le Roux could be swopped for Moet Chandon, or a lovely crisp Pongracz, at the very least.

So. Nancy Drew had to do a bit of sniffing around and after chatting to several suppliers, I found the nasty culprit. The one thing brides just feel they cant do without: The fickle flower.

Turns out that not only are the prices hiked (as with Valentine’s), but the supplies are also rather short in winter. Bummer. So all my wonderful winter wedding discounted packages I put together  with much care, is under scrutiny.

After looking around a bit, I found the most amazing decor ideas for winter wedding tables, which have no need or very little need for flowers. Two suppliers we work with regularly were kind enough to share some ideas with us. Visit ChellyB and Cafe Fleurs websites for wonderful ideas and winter packages.

Guvon Hotels offer fantastic winter wedding discounts. For beautiful wedding inspiration, follow the Guvon Hotels Pinterest board. Not only are there wedding décor ideas but also a special board for our grooms!
